Couple compatibility quiz
Answer 24 short statements each, on one device or by sending a link. See where you think alike, where you differ, and what to talk about.
Take the quiz together
Each of you answers the same 24 statements on your own, without peeking. Then you see where you match and where you see things differently, with questions to talk about.
Names are optional and only appear on your results. When you finish, you can hand the device to your partner or send them a link.
What the quiz covers
Four statements in each of six areas that couples often disagree about:
- Communication: when something bothers me, i prefer to bring it up right away; i like to talk through my day in detail with my partner; after a busy day, i need some quiet time alone to recharge; i prefer direct, plain feedback over gentle hints.
- Money: saving for the future matters more to me than enjoying money now; couples should combine most of their money; i’m comfortable carrying some debt for things like a car or a trip; we should talk before either of us makes a purchase over a few hundred dollars.
- Lifestyle: my ideal weekend includes going out and seeing people; i like to plan things ahead rather than decide at the last minute; a tidy, organized home is important to me; i’d be happy to move somewhere new, even far from family.
- Affection: physical affection, like hugs and holding hands, matters a lot to me; small gifts and surprises make me feel loved; hearing “thank you” and compliments matters a lot to me; help with chores and errands is one of the best ways to show love.
- Future plans: i want to have children, or more children; being close to extended family is a big part of the life i want; my career is one of the top priorities in my life; faith or spiritual practice is an important part of my life.
- Habits & space: after an argument, i need time to cool off before making up; it’s healthy for partners to have separate friends and hobbies; i’m more of an early bird than a night owl; being on time matters a lot to me.
How the score works
For each statement, identical answers count as a full match and opposite ends of the scale count as no match, with steps in between. Each area’s score is the average of its four statements, and the overall score is the average of the six areas. Statements where you are two or more steps apart appear under “Talk about these,” with a question to discuss. Differences on children, career, and faith are flagged, because they often matter most.
What your score means, and doesn’t
Similar answers can make everyday life easier, but research on thousands of couples finds that matching on traits and preferences predicts relationship happiness much less than how partners treat each other: feeling appreciated, committed, and close. A lower score is not a bad sign; it’s a list of good conversations. Read what research says.
Is it private?
Yes. Answers are calculated in your browser. If you send a link, the answers are stored inside the link itself, not on our servers. Anyone you give a link to can see the answers it contains. See our privacy notice.
Common questions
Can friends or roommates take it?
Yes. Most statements work for any close relationship, though a few, like having children, are written for couples.
Should we answer honestly or how we wish we were?
Honestly. The quiz is most useful when it shows real differences you can discuss.
